How to Contact Nollywood Actors in Nigeria (Legitimate Ways)

Contacting Nollywood actors can be challenging, especially for filmmakers, brands, event planners, or aspiring actors. However, many people fail simply because they approach actors the wrong way.

Nollywood is a professional industry, and actors are usually managed by agents, managers, or production companies.

This post outlines the proper and legitimate ways to contact Nollywood actors in Nigeria without being ignored or blocked.

How to Contact Nollywood Actors

Here are the steps to legitimately reach out to Nollywood actors;

1. Go Through Talent Managers and Agents
2. Use Verified Social Media Channels
3. Contact Them Through Production Companies
4. Attend Film Events, Premieres & Festivals
5. Use Casting Directors
6. Work With Film Fixers

1. Go Through Talent Managers and Agents

The best way to contact Nigerian actors is by going through their managers or management company.

Most actors and actresses in Nollywood have management that handles their acting schedule and payment agreement for their services.

Most actors would not reply to your DM on Instagram or any other social media platform except you go through their respective managers.

How it works:

• Actors are represented by talent managers or agencies
• Managers handle movie roles, endorsements, appearances, and interviews

Where to find them:

• Actor’s Instagram bio (look for “Bookings:” or “Manager:”)
• IMDb Pro
• Production company websites
• Casting announcements

Always be professional and specific in your message.

2. Use Verified Social Media Channels

There are cases where an actor may respond to your messages on social media, especially if you’re trying to collaborate with them on a project.

But whenever you try this option, ensure you use a social media account that is verifiable with your portfolio.

Best platforms:

• Instagram (most effective)
• X (Twitter)
• Facebook (less effective)

How to approach:

• Use official verified accounts only
• Send a short, respectful DM
• Avoid long voice notes or spam messages

What to include:

• Who you are
• Why are you contacting them?
• What the opportunity is
• How to follow up professionally

3. Contact Them Through Production Companies

Production companies are another great option for contacting Nollywood actors. Many filmmakers work repeatedly with these film production companies, who have their contact information in their database.

Examples of the people you can reach out to to get their contacts are;

• Film producers
• Studios
• Casting directors
• Film fixers

If you’re casting for a project, reaching out through a production company increases credibility and response rate.

4. Attend Film Events, Premieres & Festivals

The best way to obtain contacts of filmmakers in Nigeria is to meet with them in person at events such as film festivals or movie premieres.

This method works because you get to familiarise yourself with them, and it would be easier to set up a meeting at a later date.

Where to Network

Here are some of the events where you can meet actors;

• Movie premieres
• Film festivals (AFRIFF, AMVCA, Eko Film Festival)
• Industry workshops and masterclasses
• Acting auditions and open calls

When you meet filmmakers at these events, do not go literary and pitch your ideas or proposal.

5. Use Casting Directors

Using Nigerian casting directors is the easiest way to contact a Nollywood actor, especially if you’re trying to get them on your film project.

Casting directors already have access to actors and their representatives in their work database.

Benefits

• Faster access to actors
• Proper negotiation
• Professional contracts
• Scheduling handled correctly

6. Work With Film Fixers

Apart from casting directors, Nigerian film fixers are an excellent option to reach out to actors for professional collaborations.

These film fixers will help with the following;

• Casting coordination
• Negotiations
• Scheduling
• Production logistics

This is especially helpful for international filmmakers or first-time producers.

Avoid These Common Mistakes

Here are a few things you must avoid when contacting actors;

• DM actors saying “Hi” only
• Ask for free work
• Send incomplete scripts
• Sound desperate or unprofessional
• Message actors directly for big projects without a budget

Sample Message Template

Here’s a simple example:

Hello, my name is [Your Name], a filmmaker with [Company Name]. I’m producing a [film/commercial] scheduled for [timeline] and would love to discuss a potential role. Kindly let me know the best way to proceed with your management. Thank you.
