Story & Creative Concept

The concept behind Master of None was inspired by the idea that many Nigerian youths today juggle between different job roles, trying to make money and become successful.
Modern creatives are often pressured to excel at everything at once: career, relationships, finances, and personal growth. The film explores the reality of a young man who is trying to be everything, not out of willingness, but necessity to survive.
Visually, the film adopts a grounded and intimate approach. Camera movement is minimal, allowing performances and silence to carry emotional weight. Natural lighting and controlled colour tones were used to reinforce realism and emotional tension.
Pre-Production Process

Pre-production focused heavily on story clarity and emotional pacing. The script was refined to ensure each scene pushed the character’s internal conflict forward. Shot lists were created with performance in mind rather than spectacle, ensuring every frame served the story.
The location choices were intentionally simple to keep the audience focused on character development rather than distractions.
Production & Cinematography

Production was handled with a small, focused crew to maintain creative control and intimacy on set.
The camera choice was deliberate, favouring close and medium shots to capture subtle expressions and emotional shifts.
Lighting was kept natural and practical, enhancing realism while maintaining cinematic depth. Each scene was blocked to feel organic, allowing actors to move freely within the frame.
Post-Production & Editing

In post-production, editing prioritised pacing and emotional rhythm. Cuts were kept clean and purposeful, avoiding unnecessary transitions.
Sound design played a key role in reinforcing mood, using ambient sound and silence to heighten tension.
Colour grading was subtle, maintaining a natural look while enhancing contrast and tone consistency throughout the film.
